After rolling out all of our deserving awardees for this year’s 30th Truman Awards Dinner and announcing our first speaker, Congresswoman and Gubernatorial Candidate Katie Porter, the DPOC is proud to announce another Truman Awards speaker, Congressman Robert Garcia, who also served as mayor of nearby Long Beach and in June was elected by House Democrats to be Ranking Member of the House Oversight Committee, a vital post in leadership and a check on the constitutional abuses and corruption of Donald Trump and his Administration.
With Congressional Republicans abdicating their constitutional oversight authority over the executive in fealty to Trump’s authoritarian impulses, it’s never been more important to have crucial checks in place, and Congressman Garcia is well-suited to lead in this important arena and is working to rally Democrats to pass Proposition 50 in November. If Prop 50 should pass, the new maps would draw Congressman Garcia’s Long Beach-based district down into Orange County and include the cities of Huntington Beach, Costa Mesa, and parts of Newport Beach and Santa Ana.
Congressman Garcia believes in defending our democracy, leveling the playing field with progressive education policy, addressing the climate crisis, supporting working families with increasing wages, and fighting to expand and protect essential rights for women, immigrants, and the LGBTQ+ community.
The Democratic Party of Orange County is proud to stand with Congressman Garcia and have his energy and enthusiasm as we rally OC Democrats toward passage of Proposition 50 in November and flipping the House in 2026. Welcome Congressman!
