For the 30th Harry S. Truman Awards, the Democratic Party of Orange County is proud to announce a very special awardee to receive a “Lifetime Achievement Award” for a career that now spans nearly three decades. But not just a career in Democratic politics, but a lifetime of giving back, tireless advocacy on behalf of his community, and someone who wears Orange County on his back like a badge of honor, Anaheim and Santa Ana’s own, Congressman Lou Correa.
No one personifies this year’s 30th Truman Dinner theme, “We the People of Orange County” more than OC’s original homegrown congressman, and true “man of the people,” Lou Correa.
First elected to the State Assembly in 1998, Lou Correa began a three decade journey that firmly planted him as a strong voice for working families and a champion for the central OC neighborhoods where he was raised. Over the next decade, Lou would continue to serve Orange County on the Board of Supervisors and the California State Senate, winning close elections at a time before Orange County had shown its status as a national battleground.
In 2016, Lou was elected to the House of Representatives, where he has worked to strengthen the middle class and ensure everyone has the same opportunities he had growing up as well as continuing his long standing work on behalf of our nation’s veterans. More recently, Congressman Correa has shown unwavering dedication to the immigrant families of his district and proven himself a champion for the underserved, a voice for the voiceless as Trump’s vile anti-immigrant rhetoric now gives rise to ICE Raids and a terror campaign against OC families. Congressman Correa has stood up to these horrible tactics and displayed true leadership in the face of fear and intimidation. Congressman Correa has been an outspoken defender of our immigrant communities, whom he calls the “backbone” of California and the nation’s economic engine.
For this un-matched and distinguished lifelong career of service the Democratic Party of Orange County is proud to bestow the Harry S. Truman “Lifetime Achievement Award” to Congressman Lou Correa.
