ARTESIA, CA – City of Artesia Mayor and past California League of Cities President Ali Sajjad Taj today announced receiving the endorsement of stalwart Orange County legislative leader Senator Josh Newman (ret.). He joins U.S. Senator Adam Schiff, Congressmembers, Linda Sanchez, Derek Tran, Dave Min, Norma Torres, Loretta Sanchez, and AD 67 incumbent Assemblymember Sharon Quirk-Silva, all of whom recently endorsed Taj as well.
“Josh is longtime friend of mine, someone I deeply respect for his independence and focus on working families,” said Mayor Taj. “He’s a terrific person and great leader who has always dedicated himself to preserving and enhancing the California Dream.”
“My focus is like his: Make things better for everyone who works hard, help them make their paycheck go farther, so they can lift themselves and their families up,” continued Taj.
Ali is the only candidate to have filed a 12/31 campaign report for the race, showing over $212,000 in the bank without any debt.
Ali Sajjad Taj currently serves as Artesia’s Mayor with over a decade of public service experience. Known for his collaborative approach and dedication to community improvement, Taj has consistently worked to enhance public safety, promote economic development, and advocate for education, affordable housing and homelessness. He served as President of the League of California Cities, comprising all 482 cities, from 2022-2023. Taj would be the first known Pakistani-born member of the California Legislature.

How is Josh Newman even relevant anymore? Ali Taj should not be announcing his endorsement. Newman lost. Will lose again to Avelino Valencia. Next time do the campaign work in Irvine and Costa Mesa and not Fullerton and you won’t get beaten by Choi.
