Mohajer’s campaign for Irvine City Council in District 2 is gaining momentum

39-year-old Irvine native, LGBTQ+ civic leader, and Democrat Alex Mohajer announced Monday that his campaign for Irvine City Council has raised nearly $20,000 in the first six weeks since he announced his candidacy.

The $19,226 fundraising haul came from 128 contributions ahead of the campaign’s first fundraising quarter deadline of June 30. Last week, the campaign announced that it had received the endorsement of Run for Something (RFS), the groundbreaking organization that recruits and supports strong young voices in the next generation of progressive leadership, as well as OC Action, the AAPI-Latinx-Labor-Environmental Justice Alliance fighting for underrepresented communities in Orange County, and Sunrise Movement Orange County, a movement of young people fighting to end the climate crisis.

“People are excited about supporting the new generation of elected leaders, and we are ready to take the wheel,” said Mohajer in a statement on his campaign website. “This early support means the world to me, and we are just getting warmed up.”
Earlier this month, Mohajer was the top vote-getter in a candidate forum hosted by the Irvine Democratic Club, and earned the Moms Demand Action Gun Sense Candidate distinction. He is supported by OC Democratic Party Central Committee Members, elected officials from across Orange County, and local community leaders.
