In Praise of IUSD’s Sharon Wallin

Perhaps my favorite elected body in Orange County is the Irvine Unified School District, and while reviewing a list of candidates up for election last week, I noticed a name missing — Sharon Wallin.  She’s retiring.

For 18 years, Sharon has set a standard for excellence in public service.  She works well with her colleagues, led on many issues pertaining to IUSD’s operations, and is the epitome of an elected official who put public service first and politics second.  If there’s a single candidate in Irvine who is untouchable on election day, it’s Sharon.  And she’s the endorsement candidates in town are always happy to get, but she’s not going to endorse you if she doesn’t know you.  So for those candidates who invested the time to build a relationship with her, the payoff was an endorsement based in trust.  Sharon never liked the political aspect of campaigning for elected office because she’s always been about the work the job entailed.

Sharon is also one of those rare Democrats in Orange County that earned endorsements from the libertarian Orange County Register editorial board.  The secret to her success is that she spends more time listening to teachers, administrators, parents and students than she does speaking.  She’s always well-prepared for board meetings.

Sharon will be investing more time with her family and friends.  Her contributions to IUSD are too many to fully mention.  And while she is stepping down from the hard work of being a trustee, I’m counting on her staying active in Irvine.  We’ve been truly blessed to have her on the school board.

As Irvine is growing so fast, I’d like to offer a suggestion to honor Sharon’s years of service to the community.  The next new elementary school should be named for her.

  1. Not one of Sharon’s finer moments.

    Minutes:
Eric Neshanian, Woodbridge High School parent, spoke to the topic of mouth guards donated to Woodbridge High School listed on Item No. 17.b. Gifts.

    Speaking about the IUSD Board.

Here is some funny video of me trying to explain
to the board and Ms. Wallin specifically that one of the high school’s cannot accept
mouthguards for only the football team.

Think Title IX, misuse of public funds, and misappropriate of public funds. Apparently, an opinion letter from a law firm debunks actual exposure to liability.

It’s not like Irvine does not have a history that includes a Title IX violation.

Suffice it to say Ms. Wallin is not the sharpest tool in the drawer.

  2. Coming from you I’ll take that as a compliment.

She is a dim light and so are you Dan. Why don’t you go and celebrate Farrah some more. Dolt!!! Lol!!!

  3. Btw chubby the mouth guards were not donated to the school, only the football team and they had to do a consult with a dentist whose child was a student athlete at the high school.

Sharon Wallin and you are pure political trash! Plain and simple. She was supposed to protect the students of the district not the administrators and their questionable relationship with atleast one parent. And, she took the lead in exposing the school district to potential liability and further embarrassment over Title IX violations instead of doing the right thing.

    • Happy too. I defended her when Jeff LeTourneau was bullying her into an endorsement of someone she met once. Jeff never apologized and went after me instead
