Santa Ana Mayor Vince Sarmiento has announced he’s challenge Kim Nguyen for Democratic support for the OC Board of Supervisors in District 2.

The newly drawn District 2 seat in Central Orange County is over 62% Latino, has a strong Democratic voter advantage of 25.6%, and contains the entire city of Santa Ana which makes up over 50% of the District’s population.

“Our Central Orange County community needs an advocate and a champion — it’s time.”

I have worked hard in Santa Ana to help address our homelessness crisis, improve the delivery of health care – including the containment of COVID-19, increase the amount of much-needed park and open space, respond to the growing needs of working families in our community, and work to increase transparency in government. I expect to now expand my efforts on these issues at the County level, where I know we can make a difference.

I have over 14 years of experience on the Santa Ana City Council. Being appointed first in January 2007 and then subsequently re-elected in 2008, 2012, and 2016. In 2020 I was elected as only the second Latino Mayor in Santa Ana’s 152-year history.

As Supervisor, I would be only the 3rd Latino to serve on the board in County History – and the first Santa Ana official to serve on the Orange County Board of Supervisors in 74 years.

I currently serve as a Member of the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) Board of Directors and served as President and a Member of the Orange County Water District Board of Directors for 6 years.

Raised in Santa Ana and Central Orange County, I attended local public schools, graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics, and earned my Law Degree from the University of California, Los Angeles. I proudly returned home to Santa Ana with my wife Eva to raise our family, start my own Santa Ana-based Financial Law practice, and enter public service to assist my hometown of Santa Ana become the thriving and vibrant city it is today.
