TheLiberalOC reached out to DPOC Chair Ada Briceno for her thoughts on the one year anniversary of the January 6 Big Lie Insurrection.  I’m going invite the fleckless Republicans of Orange County to chime in here for their thoughts on this day and whether or not they still feel the need to bend the knee to disgraced former President Donald Trump.

From Ada Briceno:

“A defining moment and an ongoing risk:”

Democratic Party of Orange County Chairwoman Ada Briceño’s Statement on Jan. 6th Insurrection

Orange, Calif. — One year after former President Donald Trump and Republican activists led the January 6th insurrection on the United States Capitol building, people in Orange County and across America are reflecting on the attack and the future of our democracy.

Ada Briceño, Chairwoman of the Democratic Party of Orange County and Democratic National Committee Member, released the following statement:

“One year ago, we witnessed treason. Armed with bats, zip ties, guns, bear spray, and lynch ropes, a mob violently worked to dissolve our nation’s free and fair election for the Presidency. We cannot deny that the January 6th insurrection is both a defining moment and an ongoing risk. The ‘Big Lie’ that fueled the mob is, itself, just another form of treason.

Today, a responsibility sits with each of us to demand change. We must demand the truth from Republicans and pundits who push the Big Lie, and hold accountable all those who aided and abetted this lethal crime.

The deafening silence from Republican leaders in Orange County and across our nation is clear. The only path forward is to vote them out of office. Heading into the crucial 2022 Midterms, Orange County Democrats are motivated to win. We are committed to winning elections because our democracy depends on it.”

About the Democratic Party of Orange County

Once famously known as “Reagan country,” after President Reagan called Orange County the place where “all good Republicans go to die,” Orange County is rapidly shifting from a Republican stronghold into a highly diverse Democratic metropolis. Over the past four years, Orange County Democrats built a 5-point gain in voter registration and now outpace the OC GOP by more than two points.

Chairwoman Ada Briceño, a longtime labor organizer, Co-President of UNITE HERE Local 11, and Democratic National Committee member, is the first immigrant and second Latina to lead the Democratic Party of Orange County. At age 23, Executive Director Ajay Mohan became the youngest person and first Indian-American to hold that role.

Orange County Democrats keep scoring historic victories in recent elections. In 2018, they famously swept all seven Congressional seats in Orange County. In 2019, OC Democrats overtook countywide voter registration to become the region’s leading political party. In 2020, OC Democrats flipped 20 local seats and two state senate seats from red to blue, including in deep-red areas of the county. In 2021, OC Democrats powered Katrina Foley to become the first Democrat to represent the Orange County Board of Supervisors’ 2nd District in 127 years and the first female Democrat to serve in the Board’s history.

Orange County is the nation’s sixth largest county, with 3.2 million residents and more than 650,000 registered Democratic voters.
