OC Democrats Need to Break History of Poor Voter Turnout for Special Elections in District 3 BoS Race

From the polling I’ve been sent (and it’s pretty weak) coupled with the absentee ballots requested/turned in and the fact that former Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez is the only Democrat against six Republicans, Tuesday’s special election for Third District Board of Supervisors is Loretta’s to lose.

Former Anaheim Council member Kris Murray was polling ahead of Irvine Mayor Don Wagner in Irvine according to an unscientific poll by Irvine Community News and Views and former Villa Park Council member Deborah Pauly is polling well in Villa Park, Orange and Yorba Linda.  Wagner’s remarks about paying Tustin to take on Irvine’s homeless aren’t gaining him points in that city.

But to make it even possible for Sanchez to take the seat requires OC Democrats, who don’t typically turn out well for special elections, to cast ballots.  The 2018 Blue Wave needs to be a 2020 Blue wave and this election is actually the first contest of the 2020 election.

I voted early Monday morning at a “pop up” voting station at Irvine City Hall.  It took about 2 minutes.

So get out and vote for Sanchez.  If you’re a Republican or a principled conservative and can’t bring yourself to vote for Loretta, cast a ballot for Kris Murray, Deborah Pauley or Katherine Daigle.  Wagner is the unabashed Trump Republican in this election who preaches “Christian values” while staying silent on the treatment of OC’s homeless, the president’s border policies, family separations at the border, election interference by the Russians, and payments to Porn Stars and Playboy models.

We can do better than Wagner.  And we should.

While the vote count is far from over, Loretta Sanchez has a big hole to climb out of and it looks like Wagner is moving to the County seat. Of the 60,000+ votes cast, only 36% went blue. It shows the blue wave that swept Democrats into office last November still needs better GOTV efforts and there was a great effort for Loretta. But not nearly enough. My neighborhood had no walkers and most of my neighbors were completely unaware there was a special election.

    “needs better GOTV efforts”

Or a better candidate than an old retread who can’t hold her liquor.
