On November 2nd, I truly hope the people of Santa Ana have a revolution at the ballot booth and boot Pulido from office. Then, and only then, will many of the South County and Hills Democrats open their eyes and see for themselves the real Pulido, a man more concerned with the perks of office and impressing his buddies in South County and The Hills than taking care of the people he was entrusted to care for.

Ret. Sen. Joe Dunn Named Executive Director of State Bar

State Bar President Howard Miller announced Monday that after a nationwide search, the Board of Governors of the State Bar has selected former State Senator Joseph L. Dunn to be the new Executive Director of the State Bar. Dunn, 52, was a member of the California State Senate from 1998 to 2006, and in 2005 and 2006, served as Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Newsflash: Jack O’Connell in Orange County

During his brief remarks, Mr. O’Connell talked about the need for stability and long-term planning that was necessary for the the community. He congratulated the Community for the continued improvement in test scores which the Board also reported out in its’ latest dispatch. But, what he also noted was that the turmoil at the highest echelon of the Board would eventually catch up. As such, he reinforced how things had to change and change now.

Five years ago, Supervisor Bill Campbell and the Orange County Employees Association recognized two things: the importance of providing quality health care coverage for retired county employees and the rising cost of doing so. So, together, we addressed these issues head-on. Through the collective bargaining process, OCEA and the county arrived at an agreement that reduced the county’s unfunded liability for retiree medical benefits by $815 million while continuing to ensure our employees would receive adequate care in their most vulnerable years.

I came to this conclusion after watching the campaign by the current trustees to impose an agenda that in my view that forgot what they were elected: to serve the Children of the District. It began when I went out to a Community Meet and Greet organized by Capistrano’s Children First to start making inroads within the Community earlier in the year. I got a real sense of where things were when I saw the District go on strike. I joined the teachers on the picket lines to underscore how the Community was with them. In my conversations with them, I wanted them to realize that times were tough and the budget deficit at hand.
